BEIJING, Dec 1 (GeokHub) — ByteDance has unveiled its first AI voice assistant for smartphones, aiming to bring intelligent, hands-free capabilities to Chinese users. The assistant, powered by the company’s Doubao large-language model, is designed to handle tasks like content search, booking tickets, managing apps, and providing information using natural voice commands.
The initial rollout will be on ZTE’s Nubia M153 smartphone, which is currently available in limited pre-orders. ByteDance said it does not plan to produce its own phones, but is exploring partnerships with other manufacturers to expand the assistant’s availability across multiple devices.
Industry analysts note that the move puts ByteDance in direct competition with other Chinese tech giants such as Huawei and Xiaomi, which already offer integrated AI assistants. The launch reflects a broader trend in China to embed AI directly into the smartphone ecosystem, allowing users to interact more seamlessly with their devices.
