Anne Burrell, beloved Food Network chef and longtime host of Worst Cooks in America, was found unresponsive Tuesday morning in her Brooklyn home and pronounced dead at 55.

Emergency responders responded to a 911 call reporting cardiac arrest. Burrell was discovered unconscious around 7:50 a.m. ET and pronounced dead at the scene. The official cause of death is pending an autopsy.

A graduate of the Culinary Institute of America, Burrell first appeared on TV in 2005 on Iron Chef America, later hosting Secrets of a Restaurant Chef and Worst Cooks in America—a series she led for 27 seasons, mentoring amateur cooks.

Tributes Pour In

  • Rachael Ray said she was “truly shaken” by the news, recalling their strong friendship; Burrell even asked Ray to be a bridesmaid at her 2021 wedding.
  • Colleagues from Food Network, including Carla Hall, Carson Kressley, and Robert Irvine, praised her warmth, mentorship, and vibrant presence.

Burrell is survived by her husband, Stuart Claxton, his son Javier, her mother Marlene, sister Jane, brother Ben, and her three children.

The culinary community mourns a dynamic teacher and mentor whose passion and energy influenced both aspiring cooks and fans alike.
