French AI Firm Mistral Acquires Cloud Startup Koyeb to Strengthen European AI Infrastructure

GeokHub

PARIS, Feb 17 (GeokHub) — French artificial intelligence leader Mistral AI has announced its first acquisition, acquiring cloud computing startup Koyeb in a move aimed at accelerating its AI infrastructure capabilities across Europe. The terms of the deal were not disclosed.
In a statement, Mistral said the acquisition represents “a significant step forward in our mission to build a full-stack AI champion and advance cutting-edge AI infrastructure.” The Koyeb team, including its three co-founders and 13 employees, will join Mistral’s growing workforce.
Strengthening Europe’s AI Ecosystem
Koyeb, based in Boulogne-Billancourt near Paris, specializes in serverless cloud computing services, allowing developers to deploy applications without managing traditional server infrastructure. By integrating Koyeb’s technology, Mistral aims to enhance the performance and flexibility of its AI systems while keeping key operations within Europe.
Mistral, valued at $11.7 billion last September following investment from chipmaking equipment giant ASML, is considered Europe’s largest AI company. The acquisition comes on the heels of Mistral’s announcement of a €1.2 billion ($1.42 billion) investment in new data centers in Sweden, reflecting a strategic effort to maintain European-based AI infrastructure, in contrast to U.S.-based competitors.
