Household names from Adidas and Nike to Walmart and Home Depot are warning that President Donald Trump’s new tariffs are beginning to drive prices higher, signaling another wave of inflationary pressure for U.S. consumers.

Adidas Prepares for Cost Surge

Adidas expects to take a €200 million hit in the second half of 2025 from tariff-related expenses, after already absorbing tens of millions earlier this year. CEO Bjørn Gulden confirmed the company will raise U.S. prices on several of its most popular sneakers, including the iconic Samba and Campus lines.

Walmart Signals Coming Increases

Walmart, the nation’s largest retailer, said it can no longer shield shoppers from the full weight of tariff costs. Chief Financial Officer John David Rainey warned that price hikes will begin appearing by the end of September, particularly across essentials, apparel, and electronics.

“We’ve reached the point where these tariffs are still too high for suppliers and retailers to shoulder alone,” Rainey said.

Home Depot Plays Down Impact

Home Depot downplayed the scale of tariff damage, noting its diverse supplier base. Executives said they do not foresee broad price hikes but acknowledged that certain import-heavy categories could see increases.

Other Brands Feeling the Squeeze

  • Nike has projected up to $1 billion in extra costs and plans selective price increases.
  • Puma and other sportswear brands are expected to follow suit.
  • Swatch is raising U.S. prices by as much as 15 percent on luxury watches.

The Bigger Picture

Trump’s tariff strategy is aimed at cutting U.S. dependence on foreign imports, particularly from Asia. But critics argue the immediate outcome is higher prices for consumers and tighter household budgets, especially as inflation pressures linger.

What It Means for You

  • Clothing & Shoes: Expect higher prices on sneakers, sportswear, and even luxury items.
  • Everyday Essentials: Walmart’s move signals that groceries, electronics, and home goods may get more expensive.
  • Home Improvement: While Home Depot says impacts are limited, imported fixtures, tools, or materials could see modest increases.
  • Inflation Watch: Tariff-driven hikes could add to overall inflation, making it harder for households already feeling stretched.
