Meta has announced plans to introduce paid, ad-free versions of Facebook and Instagram for users in the United Kingdom. The new subscription model is expected to launch later this year, giving users the option to enjoy the platforms without targeted advertising.
The move follows growing regulatory pressure in Europe over how tech companies handle user data and deliver personalized ads. By offering a subscription tier, Meta aims to comply with privacy requirements while providing an alternative for those who prefer an ad-free experience.
Although pricing details have not yet been confirmed for the UK, similar models in the European Union are priced at around €9.99 per month for a single account. Meta says advertising will remain the default option, but subscriptions will give users more control over their online experience.
Analysts note that the rollout could reshape the company’s revenue streams while testing whether users are willing to pay for a social media service traditionally offered for free.
