Mobileye to Acquire Humanoid Robotics Startup Mentee for $900 Million

GeokHub

LAS VEGAS, Jan 6 — GeokHub Mobileye Global, the Israeli self-driving technology firm, announced on Tuesday that it will acquire humanoid robotics startup Mentee Robotics for approximately $900 million, signaling the company’s strategic push into the broader field of artificial intelligence and robotics.
The acquisition underscores the growing convergence between autonomous vehicles and robotics, where shared technologies in sensing, perception, and decision-making form the backbone of what is being called embodied AI.
Humanoid Robots Gain Momentum
Interest in humanoid robotics has surged as these human-like machines are increasingly seen as adaptable solutions for warehouses, factories, and complex work environments. The technology promises to alleviate labor shortages while enhancing productivity.
Mobileye’s CEO Amnon Shashua, who co-founded Mentee Robotics and serves as the startup’s co-CEO, said the integration will combine Mobileye’s autonomous driving software and safety systems with Mentee’s humanoid robot development.
Financial and Market Background
Mentee Robotics previously raised $21 million in March, giving the company a valuation of around $162 million, with investment from major tech VC arms including Cisco and Samsung. Intel, which spun out its computer vision business RealSense to accelerate robotics growth, remains Mobileye’s largest shareholder with roughly a 23% stake.
Competitive Landscape
The humanoid robotics sector is attracting intense competition from companies including Tesla, Figure AI, Agility Robotics, and several Chinese startups. Tesla CEO Elon Musk has indicated that humanoid robots could become the company’s largest business segment over the long term.
Mentee Robotics has developed technology that significantly reduces the need for large-scale real-world data collection. The system can transform a single human demonstration into millions of virtual repetitions, streamlining the training of humanoid AI systems.
Deployment and Commercialization
The acquisition, announced at the CES technology show in Las Vegas, is expected to close in the first quarter of 2026, subject to customary conditions. Mentee anticipates proof-of-concept deployments with customers in 2026, with full-scale production and commercialization targeted by 2028.
