Feb. 1 (GeokHub) — Nvidia (NVDA.O) CEO Jensen Huang visited his native Taiwan over the weekend, praising major suppliers and urging them to expand production to meet strong global demand for artificial intelligence (AI) chips.
During an outdoor press conference in Taipei, held in the rain following a “trillion-dollar dinner” with key Taiwanese suppliers, Huang commended TSMC and other partners for their work while emphasizing the need for increased wafer output.
“TSMC needs to work very hard this year because I need a lot of wafers,” Huang said, adding that over the next decade, TSMC is expected to expand capacity by more than 100% to keep up with AI demand.
Huang also highlighted concerns about the supply of memory chips, crucial for AI workloads, noting the production crunch across the supply chain.
The gathering, attended by executives from TSMC, Foxconn, and other partners, drew large crowds of fans, reflecting Huang’s popularity in Taiwan, where media have dubbed him “the people’s dad.” Huang, who emigrated to the U.S. as a child, co-founded California-based Nvidia in 1993. Last year, the company became the first in the world to reach a $5 trillion market value, cementing its role at the forefront of the global AI revolution.
“Nvidia won’t be possible without Taiwan. There’s magic in this island. The companies here have extraordinary technology, they’ve incredible culture,” Huang said.
Huang is expected to leave Taiwan on Monday after a visit that included multiple meetings with suppliers and public engagements with fans.
