Taipei / Dec 13 (GeokHub) Nvidia is considering expanding production of its powerful H200 artificial intelligence chips after receiving orders that exceed current capacity, according to people familiar with the matter. The potential decision comes as Chinese technology firms express robust interest in the second-fastest AI processors in Nvidia’s lineup, in the wake of recent U.S. policy changes allowing limited exports of H200 chips to China.
The H200, which has been deployed globally since last year, significantly outperforms Nvidia’s China-specific H20 chips and remains one of the most sought-after accelerators for advanced AI training workloads. Major Chinese companies, including leading cloud and internet platforms, have already contacted Nvidia about placing large orders, sources said.
Despite strong demand, the Chinese government has yet to issue final approvals for H200 shipments, and officials have held internal discussions on how to oversee such imports. At the same time, Nvidia continues to prioritize production of its newer Blackwell chips and the upcoming Rubin series, which could constrain how quickly new H200 capacity can be added.
Nvidia emphasized that any licensed sales to authorized Chinese customers would not detract from fulfilling existing commitments to customers in the United States and other markets. In recent days, the company has outlined supply chain adjustments aimed at balancing global demand without undermining service levels for its largest clients.
