London, Nov. 21, 2025 — Paramount+, the U.S.-based streaming service, has secured the rights to broadcast the majority of UEFA Champions League matches in the United Kingdom from 2027 to 2031, marking a major shift in European football coverage. The move ends TNT Sports’ current dominance of the competition’s UK broadcasting rights.
Under the agreement, Amazon Prime Video will retain the privilege of selecting the first pick of Tuesday fixtures, ensuring its continued presence in the Champions League schedule. TNT Sports, while maintaining coverage of other major sports events including the Premier League, acknowledged it could not match Paramount+’s bid for the Champions League rights.
The deal positions Paramount+ as a significant player in UK football broadcasting, reflecting the growing trend of streaming platforms gaining prominence in elite European sports coverage. Industry analysts note that the shift is likely to change viewing habits, particularly among younger audiences who favor digital streaming over traditional television.
For UEFA, the arrangement represents a strategic effort to diversify the distribution of its most prestigious club competition, potentially boosting revenues and enhancing competition among broadcasters. Fans in the UK, however, may need to subscribe to multiple services to watch all their preferred matches, as the split rights mean some games will remain exclusive to Amazon Prime Video.
The development highlights the increasingly competitive landscape of football media rights, where streaming platforms are challenging traditional broadcasters and reshaping how major sporting events are consumed. Paramount+’s entry into top-tier Champions League coverage underscores the platform’s ambition to expand its sports offerings and capture a growing digital audience.
