WASHINGTON — Dec 8 (GeokHub) President Donald Trump said he plans to be “personally involved” in the government’s review of the proposed merger between Netflix and Warner Bros. Discovery, signaling heightened political and regulatory scrutiny for what would be one of the largest entertainment deals in U.S. history.
Speaking to reporters, Trump warned that the scale of the combined company could raise “serious market-share concerns,” noting that regulators would need to examine how the merger might affect competition in streaming, film production, and digital distribution.
Trump added that he respects Netflix’s leadership team but stressed that admiration “does not change the need for strong oversight.” He emphasized that both economic advisers and antitrust officials would be central to evaluating whether the merger serves the public interest.
The deal, which has already rattled Hollywood and drawn intense industry debate, now faces a more complicated approval path as the White House signals direct involvement.
