President Donald Trump is scheduled to sign an executive order on Thursday, September 25, 2025, formalizing a deal that will transfer TikTok’s U.S. operations to American ownership. This move aligns with a 2024 law mandating the divestiture of TikTok from its Chinese parent company, ByteDance, or face a U.S. ban.
The agreement includes provisions to ensure that TikTok’s algorithm is secured, retrained, and operated within the United States, independent of ByteDance’s control. The deal also involves U.S. investors, including media mogul Lachlan Murdoch, and tech leaders Larry Ellison and Michael Dell, who are expected to play significant roles in the new U.S.-based entity.
To facilitate the transition, the White House has extended the divestiture deadline to December 16, 2025, providing additional time for the deal’s finalization. TikTok currently boasts 170 million users in the United States, and the White House has recently launched an official account on the platform, signaling its commitment to maintaining the app’s operations in the country.
