New York / Dec 9 (GeokHub) Justin McLeod — founder and CEO of Hinge since 2011 — is stepping down to lead a new artificial-intelligence–driven dating venture called Overtone, backed by Match Group. Overtone, which has been incubated within Hinge over the course of 2025, is designed to leverage AI and voice-enabled tools to offer a more personalized matchmaking experience.

As part of the leadership transition, Hinge’s current President and Chief Marketing Officer, Jackie Jantos, has been named the new CEO. McLeod will assume the role of Overtone’s Chairman, and he will continue as an adviser to Hinge through March 2026 to ensure a smooth handover.

Match Group says it will lead Overtone’s initial funding round in early 2026 and maintain a significant ownership stake — underscoring its strategic commitment to explore AI-based innovation in online dating.

Analysis / Impact:
This move signals a major shift in how dating platforms may evolve: by blending technology and human connection to possibly redefine user experience. With Overtone’s focus on AI and voice tools, Match Group appears to be betting that next-generation matchmaking technology could address fatigue and stagnation in traditional swipe-based dating apps. For users, it could mean deeper, more tailored interactions — though it also raises questions about how AI-mediated dating will impact authenticity and privacy.

For Hinge, promoting Jackie Jantos ensures continuity and may keep the app competitive as the industry adapts. Meanwhile, for Match Group, launching Overtone is a strategic hedge — a bid to lead in what could be the next frontier of dating: AI-augmented relationship building.
