Bengaluru, Dec 31 (GeokHub) Elon Musk said his brain-implant startup Neuralink plans to begin high-volume production of its brain–computer interface devices and shift to fully automated surgical procedures in 2026.
Musk made the announcement in a post on social media platform X. Neuralink did not immediately respond to a request for further comment.
The company’s implant technology is designed to help people with neurological conditions such as spinal cord injuries by allowing them to control computers and devices using their thoughts. Neuralink’s first human recipient has demonstrated the ability to play video games, browse the internet, post on social media and move a computer cursor using the implant.
Neuralink began human trials in 2024 after resolving safety concerns raised earlier by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, which had rejected the company’s initial application in 2022.
In September, the company said 12 people worldwide with severe paralysis had received Neuralink implants and were using them to interact with both digital and physical tools. The startup also raised $650 million in a funding round completed in June, underscoring growing investor interest in brain–computer interface technology.
If successful, the move to automated surgery and large-scale production could significantly accelerate Neuralink’s efforts to bring its technology to a broader patient population, placing it at the forefront of emerging neurotechnology innovation.
