SEOUL — Dec 2 (GeokHub) Samsung Electronics has unveiled its first multi-folding smartphone, the Galaxy Z TriFold, a move that signals a new push into advanced foldable devices as rivalry in the market widens.
When unfolded fully, the TriFold reveals a tablet-size, 10-inch display made possible by its three-panel design — a screen nearly 25 percent larger than that of Samsung’s previous foldable models. The company describes the device as a blend of phone portability and tablet-like screen real estate, aimed at users who want both compact form and expansive display for multitasking, media and productivity.
Priced at about 3.59 million South Korean won (roughly $2,440), the TriFold comes with Samsung’s largest-ever battery for a foldable phone and supports rapid charging. The high cost and the complexity of the multi-fold design suggest the device is aimed primarily at enthusiasts and early adopters — not the mass market.
According to Samsung, the device will go on sale in South Korea on December 12, with availability rolling out later in select international markets. Analysts who follow the foldable phone space say the TriFold is likely to serve as a technology showcase rather than a high-volume seller right away, as manufacturers and buyers gauge market interest and production feasibility.
