Jan 13, 2026 | GEOKHUB Google is set to begin developing and manufacturing its high-end Pixel smartphones in Vietnam this year, marking a significant shift in its global production strategy as the company deepens its footprint in Southeast Asia.
According to people familiar with the matter, the move will see Google launch new product introduction (NPI) processes in Vietnam for its Pixel, Pixel Pro, and Pixel Fold devices. Development of the more affordable Pixel A series will continue in China for now.
Vietnam’s Expanding Role in Google’s Supply Chain
Google already relies heavily on Vietnam for assembling Pixel smartphones and other hardware, with a well-established supplier network operating in the country. The expansion into full-scale development reflects growing confidence in Vietnam’s manufacturing and engineering capabilities.
NPI is a crucial phase in electronics production, covering design validation, process development, testing, and refinement before mass manufacturing begins. With Google already mass-producing premium smartphones and conducting verification work in Vietnam, industry sources say transitioning to full development there is a realistic next step.
Strategic Shift Amid Global Supply Chain Changes
The move highlights Google’s broader effort to diversify its supply chain, reduce reliance on China, and build resilience against geopolitical tensions, tariffs, and manufacturing disruptions. Vietnam has emerged as a key alternative hub for global tech companies seeking stable production environments and skilled labor.
While Google has not publicly commented on the report, the shift positions Vietnam as a central pillar in the future of Google’s hardware business — especially as competition in the premium smartphone market intensifies.
