Jan 5 (GeokHub) — Electric vehicle maker Lucid Group, autonomous tech developer Nuro and ride-hailing giant Uber on Monday showcased a production-ready robotaxi at the CES tech show in Las Vegas, marking a major step toward commercial deployment of autonomous ride-hailing vehicles.

The vehicle — based on Lucid’s Gravity electric SUV platform — integrates Nuro’s Level-4 self-driving system with Nvidia’s advanced DRIVE AGX Thor autonomous computing architecture and features a sensor “halo” designed to provide 360-degree perception. Uber contributed a custom passenger-oriented interior with interactive screens and controls for comfort and trip information.

On-road trials began in December 2025 in the San Francisco Bay Area with safety operators onboard, and full-scale production is expected later in 2026 at Lucid’s Arizona manufacturing facility, pending regulatory and safety validation. Uber plans to make the robotaxi available through its app, effectively broadening its transportation offerings beyond human-driven trips.

For Lucid, the robotaxi initiative offers a chance to diversify beyond traditional electric vehicle sales amid a competitive and slowing U.S. EV market. For Uber, partnering with autonomous technology firms rather than building its own software positions the company as a platform integrator for self-driving fleets. The joint effort aligns them with other players pursuing robotaxi services, including Waymo and Tesla.
