KUALA LUMPUR | Jan 23 (GeokHub) Malaysia has lifted its temporary block on the Grok artificial intelligence chatbot after its developer, social media platform X, introduced additional safety measures to address regulatory concerns, the country’s communications regulator said on Friday.
The ban was imposed earlier this month following international backlash over a Grok feature that allowed users to generate and publicly share sexualised images of other individuals, raising serious safety and content moderation concerns.
Regulator Cites Improved Safeguards
According to Malaysian authorities, access was restored after X implemented safeguards designed to prevent misuse of the chatbot and limit the creation and distribution of harmful content.
The regulator said it would continue monitoring Grok’s compliance with local digital safety standards to ensure the platform does not reintroduce features that violate Malaysian laws or public interest guidelines.
