SINGAPORE, Feb. 2 (GeokHub) — Singapore will establish its own national space agency on April 1, marking a major step as the city-state seeks to position itself in the rapidly expanding global space economy.

The Ministry of Trade and Industry announced that the new agency will be responsible for developing and operating Singapore’s space capabilities, while also creating legislation and regulatory frameworks to support innovation and private-sector growth in the space technology industry.

Officials said Singapore is well placed to compete globally due to its strengths in advanced manufacturing, aerospace engineering, micro-electronics, precision engineering and artificial intelligence. These capabilities are expected to help the country attract investment and participate more deeply in space-related technologies and services.

The announcement was made at Singapore’s inaugural space summit by Trade and Industry Minister Tan See Leng, who oversees energy and technology portfolios.

Global investment in space technology is projected to rise further after reaching record levels in 2025, according to industry data, underscoring the timing of Singapore’s move as countries and companies race to capitalise on space-based infrastructure, data services and emerging commercial opportunities.

Singapore currently hosts about 70 space-related companies employing roughly 2,000 professionals across satellite development, downstream services and supporting technologies. The government believes the creation of a national space agency will strengthen coordination, attract global partners and accelerate industry growth.
