BEIJING, Feb. 6 (GeokHub) — Tesla is operating an artificial intelligence training centre in China that focuses on developing AI applications tailored to local use cases and advanced driver-assistance systems, according to local media reports citing a company vice president.
The centre is reported to be training Tesla’s AI technology in China with an emphasis on software functions that support assisted driving in the country’s unique driving environments and user expectations. The initiative was described by Tesla Vice President Tao Lin in comments covered by the Chinese outlet Cailianshe.
Tesla’s work on AI in China comes as global automakers and technology firms step up efforts to refine systems for driver assistance and autonomous features. China’s market — the world’s largest for electric vehicles — presents both opportunities and technical challenges that can differ from conditions in Europe and North America.
Tesla did not immediately provide a comment on the report.
