The Detroit Pistons selected Chaz Lanier, a standout sharpshooter from Tennessee, as the 37th overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft. Standing just under 6’4" with a 6’9" wingspan, Lanier made history at Tennessee by sinking 123 three-pointers in a single season and averaging 18 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 1.1 assists while shooting 39.5% from deep on 8.2 attempts per game.
Pistons president Trajan Langdon has emphasized adding shooting around star guard Cade Cunningham, and Lanier fits that blueprint perfectly. A true “movement shooter,” he connected on 36% of threes off the dribble—a valuable skill in today’s NBA.
While his defensive metrics and ball-handling remain areas for growth, Lanier’s NBA-ready shooting touch and athletic upside make him an ideal role player in Detroit’s evolving rotation.
