FRANKFURT, Feb 18 (GeokHub) — Infineon Technologies is positioning itself to benefit from what it expects could become a major expansion in the market for humanoid robot microchips, according to Chief Executive Jochen Hanebeck.

Hanebeck said the segment for chips powering human-like robots could evolve into a growth area comparable to today’s high-performance semiconductors used in artificial intelligence data centers.

Robotics as the Next Semiconductor Boom

The CEO indicated that the rapid progress in robotics, automation and AI-driven systems could drive substantial demand for advanced microcontrollers, power semiconductors and sensor technologies — areas where Infineon already has established expertise.

Humanoid robots require complex chip architectures to manage motion control, real-time data processing, energy efficiency and environmental sensing. As these machines transition from research labs into commercial and industrial use, semiconductor suppliers are expected to play a central role.

Leveraging Automotive Experience

Hanebeck noted that Infineon is already capable of producing many of the components required for humanoid robotics, partly due to its extensive work in autonomous driving systems.

The company’s experience in automotive semiconductors — including chips used for vehicle sensors, power management and safety-critical systems — provides a technological foundation that can be adapted for robotics applications.

As a result, Infineon may not require significant new in-house technology development to enter the humanoid robotics space, he suggested.
