NEVADA, Feb 17 (GeokHub) — Renewable energy leader Ormat Technologies has finalized a long-term geothermal power purchase agreement with NV Energy to supply electricity for Google’s Nevada operations. The deal, spanning 150 megawatts of new geothermal capacity, will enable Ormat to develop multiple geothermal projects across the state, scheduled to come online between 2028 and 2030.

Unlike intermittent renewable sources such as wind and solar, geothermal energy offers steady, carbon-free electricity, making it an attractive option for energy-intensive industries. The sector is experiencing renewed growth as Big Tech companies seek reliable power to fuel expanding AI data centers and other high-demand operations.

“By adding up to 150MW of new clean-firm geothermal capacity in Nevada, we are utilizing a repeatable framework that fully covers all costs associated with our electric service,” said Briana Kobor, Head of Energy Market Innovation at Google.

The agreement also provides a scalable model for utilities and large corporations to invest in renewable energy while maintaining full coverage of service costs.
