Dec 31 (GeokHub) Trump Mobile has delayed plans to ship its gold-colored smartphone by the end of the year, according to a report by the Financial Times.
The mobile venture, which licenses the Trump name, was launched in June alongside a proposed $499 smartphone known as the T1. The project marks the latest effort by members of President Donald Trump’s family to commercialize the Trump brand through consumer products and services.
Customer service representatives for Trump Mobile told the Financial Times that the recent U.S. government shutdown disrupted shipments, warning there was a “strong possibility” the device would not be delivered this month.
The company did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Trump Mobile had previously promoted the handset as a gold-colored smartphone, though it has not disclosed who would manufacture the device. The United States has limited domestic smartphone production capacity, with most handsets sold in the country produced overseas.
Alongside the phone, Trump Mobile launched a wireless service priced at $47.45 per month. The company’s website says customers can reserve the device with a $100 pre-booking fee, with delivery initially expected before the end of the year.
The U.S. smartphone market is one of the most saturated globally and is dominated by Apple and Samsung. Nearly all smartphones sold in the country are manufactured abroad, primarily in China, South Korea, and increasingly in India and Vietnam.
