Memphis Grizzlies guard Ja Morant has been ruled week-to-week after sustaining a sprained ankle during practice on Sunday, the team announced. The injury will force him to miss the preseason opener.
Morant, a two-time All-Star, posted averages of 23.2 points, 7.3 assists, 4.1 rebounds, and 1.2 steals in 50 starts last season. Over his NBA career, he has maintained roughly 22.6 points, 7.4 assists, and 4.7 rebounds per game.
The Grizzlies begin their regular season on October 22 at home against the New Orleans Pelicans. Already, the team is coping with injuries to key players including Brandon Clarke (knee), Jaren Jackson Jr. (toe), and Zach Edey (ankle), which could hinder their early season form.
