CIA Expands Farsi Social Media Push Amid U.S. Military Threats to Iran

WASHINGTON, Feb. 25 (GeokHub) — The U.S. Central Intelligence Agency has launched a new social media campaign in Farsi, providing instructions for Iranians who wish to securely contact the agency, as Washington escalates pressure on Tehran amid looming nuclear negotiations.

The recruitment initiative coincides with the largest U.S. military buildup in the Middle East since 2003, which President Donald Trump has said could be used against Iran if talks in Geneva fail to yield a deal on Tehran’s nuclear program. Trump described Iran as the “world’s biggest sponsor of terrorism” and emphasized that the country must not obtain nuclear weapons, a claim Tehran denies.

The CIA posted its Farsi-language instructions on X, Instagram, Facebook, Telegram, and YouTube, advising potential contacts to take security precautions. The message urged Iranians to avoid work devices, consider using disposable phones or computers, and use encrypted networks such as Tor or a trusted VPN not based in Russia, Iran, or China.

The guidance outlined what the CIA seeks from potential sources, including names, locations, job titles, and access to information or skills relevant to the agency. The posts emphasized operational security, cautioning users to be aware of their surroundings and anyone who might observe their activity.

This push is part of a broader CIA effort to recruit sources in Iran, as well as in China, North Korea, and Russia. The agency declined to comment on the initiative, and Iran’s UN delegation did not immediately respond.

The social media recruitment comes just ahead of Thursday’s indirect talks in Geneva, where U.S. envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner are scheduled to meet Iranian officials led by Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi. Trump has warned that military action could follow if the negotiations fail or if Tehran executes individuals arrested during nationwide anti-government protests in January, which rights groups say resulted in thousands of deaths.
