Washington | Jan 14, 2026 — GeokHub U.S. President Donald Trump said on Wednesday he has been informed that killings linked to Iran’s crackdown on nationwide protests are easing, adding that he does not believe Tehran is currently planning large-scale executions of detained demonstrators.
Trump, speaking to reporters in Washington, said the information came from what he described as “very important sources on the other side,” though he declined to provide further details.
The remarks appear to signal a cautious shift in tone from the White House, amid heightened tensions between the United States and Iran following weeks of unrest across the country.
No Immediate Sign of Mass Executions
Trump said he does not believe Iranian authorities are preparing widespread executions at this time, a concern that had earlier raised fears of a sharp escalation in the crisis.
Earlier this week, the president warned that the United States would take “very strong action” if Iran moved ahead with executing protesters detained during the demonstrations.
On Wednesday, however, Trump struck a more measured note, saying Washington would continue to closely monitor developments.
“We are going to watch what the process is,” he said.
U.S. Keeps Options Open
Despite the apparent easing of violence, Trump did not rule out potential U.S. military action, stressing that all options remain on the table depending on how the situation unfolds.
He also said the U.S. administration had received what he described as a “very good statement” from Iran, without elaborating on its contents.
The comments come as international concern remains high over Iran’s handling of the protests, which erupted amid worsening economic conditions and have posed one of the most serious internal challenges to Tehran’s leadership in recent years.
