ANC Blocks Military Parade Set for Trump’s Birthday
A local Washington, D.C. commission has voted against the military parade planned for President Trump’s birthday, saying it’s unnecessary and could disrupt the city.
The Advisory Neighborhood Commission (ANC) 6B passed a resolution opposing the parade, which is tied to the U.S. Army’s 250th anniversary. The event was scheduled for June 14—which also happens to be Donald Trump’s birthday.
According to the ANC, holding such a massive military parade in the heart of D.C. would cause traffic chaos, put pressure on local resources, and seem politically charged.
Critics, including some lawmakers, argue that the parade feels more like a birthday celebration for Trump than a military commemoration. Some say it could cost taxpayers tens of millions of dollars. Others warned it may resemble the kind of show-of-force events usually seen in authoritarian countries.
So far, the Army has not announced any changes to its plans. But the ANC’s move is expected to ramp up pressure on federal organizers and could spark more public debate.
