Iran Launches Missiles at Israel Following Israeli Strikes on Nuclear Sites
Tensions in the Middle East have escalated sharply after Iran launched a wave of missiles at Israel, in direct retaliation for Israeli airstrikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities and key military sites earlier this week.
The Iranian military confirmed the launches, stating that the attack was a “direct response to Zionist aggression.” Missiles were fired from multiple bases across Iran and were aimed at strategic locations inside Israel, including Tel Aviv and southern military installations.
The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) activated nationwide air defense systems, with sirens sounding across central and southern regions. Early reports suggest many of the missiles were intercepted, but there have been casualties and infrastructure damage in some areas.
This marks one of the most dangerous escalations between the two nations in years. The Iranian strikes come just days after Israel carried out what it called “preventive strikes” against Iran’s nuclear program. That operation reportedly killed several senior Iranian military commanders and damaged uranium enrichment facilities in Natanz and other locations.
In response to the missile attacks, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called for an emergency meeting with the country’s security cabinet and vowed a “strong and sustained” counter-response.
Meanwhile, global powers including the U.S., Russia, and the EU have urged both countries to de-escalate. The United Nations Security Council is expected to hold an emergency session.
Oil prices spiked immediately following the news, and global markets are showing early signs of volatility amid fears of a broader regional conflict.
This is a developing story. More updates will follow as the situation unfolds.
