MUSCAT/DUBAI, Feb 6 (GeokHub) - High-stakes nuclear negotiations between Iran and the United States kicked off in Oman on Friday, marking a cautious yet significant step toward reviving diplomacy over Tehran’s nuclear program.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi described the meeting as a “good start” and confirmed that discussions would continue after both sides return to their capitals for further consultations. “Coordination on how to proceed will be decided in the capitals,” Araqchi told Iranian state media, emphasizing the need to overcome what he called a “wall of mistrust.”

While both countries have signaled a willingness to re-engage diplomatically, Washington has sought to expand the dialogue beyond nuclear issues to include Iran’s ballistic missile program, its support for regional armed groups, and human rights concerns. U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio highlighted these priorities ahead of the talks.

Iran, however, has remained firm that its missile program is off-limits and reiterated its insistence on recognition of its right to enrich uranium, a point that remains a key sticking point. For the United States, allowing uranium enrichment on Iranian soil remains a strict red line.

The talks come amid growing international concern over tensions in the Middle East, with global powers closely monitoring developments. Analysts suggest that successful diplomacy could ease regional instability, while failure may further escalate fears of confrontation.

Analysis / Impact:
Experts note that the Oman talks represent a rare window for dialogue between two countries that have long-standing mistrust. Even limited progress could signal a shift toward reducing regional tensions. However, the deep divide on core issues such as uranium enrichment and missiles means that breakthroughs may be slow, requiring patient negotiation and international support.
