Manchester City delivered a commanding performance at the Etihad Stadium, defeating Burnley 5-1 in a Premier League clash on September 27, 2025.

The match began with an early setback for Burnley as defender Maxime Esteve inadvertently scored an own goal in the 12th minute, giving City the lead. Despite this, Burnley responded positively, and in the 38th minute, Jaidon Anthony capitalized on a defensive lapse to equalize, marking his fourth goal of the season.

City regained control in the second half. In the 61st minute, Matheus Nunes restored City’s lead with a powerful volley, assisted by Erling Haaland. Just four minutes later, Esteve faced misfortune again, deflecting a shot from Oscar Bobb into his own net, giving City a two-goal advantage.

Haaland, returning from a back injury, sealed the victory with two goals in stoppage time, bringing his season tally to eight goals. His first came from a close-range finish, and the second was a header from a cross by Jérémy Doku.

The win propelled Manchester City to 10 points from six matches, narrowing the gap to five points behind league leaders Liverpool, who suffered a loss to Crystal Palace. Burnley, with only four points from six matches, remain in 17th place and face relegation pressure.
