Nottingham Forest Owner Issues Statement After On-Pitch Confrontation with Manager Nuno Espírito Santo

In a dramatic turn of events at the City Ground, Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis stormed onto the pitch to confront manager Nuno Espírito Santo following a 2-2 draw against Leicester City. The match, which saw Forest's Champions League aspirations take a hit, was marred by the incident involving striker Taiwo Awoniyi.

Awoniyi suffered an injury after colliding with the goalpost but remained on the field due to miscommunication between the medical and coaching staff. With all substitutions used, Forest effectively played the final minutes with a compromised player, leading to Marinakis's visible frustration.

Addressing the situation, Marinakis released a statement expressing both pride in the team's qualification for European competition and disappointment over the handling of Awoniyi's injury:

"Today is a day for celebration, because after 30 years, Nottingham Forest is now guaranteed to be competing on the European stage once again—a promise I made to our supporters when we achieved promotion!

Everybody—coaching staff, players, supporters, and including myself—we were frustrated around the injury of Taiwo and the medical staff's misjudgment on Taiwo's ability to continue the game.

This is natural; this is a demonstration of the passion we feel for our club. Let's all be grateful, passionate, and keep on dreaming!

Manager Nuno Espírito Santo defended the owner's actions, attributing them to the high emotions surrounding the game:

"Football is emotions. It's difficult to control, especially when we had so much expectation today. It was due to the situation. There was a confusion over the situation of Taiwo Awoniyi.

Despite the setback, Nottingham Forest remains in contention for a Champions League spot, sitting just behind fifth-placed Chelsea with two games remaining. The team will need favorable results in their upcoming matches to secure a place in Europe's premier club competition.
