Twenty-two-year-old defender Jarell Quansah has moved from Liverpool to Bayer Leverkusen, citing the need for consistent playing time and further development. Despite making 58 appearances for Liverpool, Quansah featured in just four league games in the previous season, a situation that motivated his transfer under a five-year contract.
Quansah said as a young centre-back he needs to play regularly, including making mistakes, to grow. Since joining Leverkusen, he has started every match in their first nine fixtures of the season, even scoring in his Bundesliga debut.
Though recognized for his achievements at youth international level—part of England’s Under-21 European Championship winning squad—Quansah is yet to earn his senior cap. He has been called up to the senior team five times. England’s upcoming fixtures include a friendly with Wales and a World Cup qualifier versus Latvia, with qualification hopes still alive depending on results elsewhere.
His decision underscores a growing trend among young talents seeking moves abroad to accelerate growth and visibility, especially when first-team opportunities are limited in top Premier League squads.
